| | Online Casino A Popular Talk At G2E
Even though most of the online casino companies and executives were missing - discouraged by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act - the online gambling industry was still one of the most popular talks in the recent Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas. Aside from the comments of Terri Lani from MGM Mirage and Frank Fahrenkopf from AGA, many other executives expressed their feelings about the recent US anti-online casino bill, and its possible repercussions on the whole gambling world.
Top land gaming executives weren't the only ones criticizing the recent law. The Las Vegas Sun described it as "cumbersome, confusing and potentially ineffective" and highlighted the fact that most chances are that all those who want to will still be able to gamble in online casino sites. According to many of the convention participants, the real purpose of the bill was to satisfy the religious conservatives, which made the Republicans to include the online casino restriction in the "must pass" security Bill. "Many members of the Homeland Security Committee didn't even bother to read the law, let alone debate about it" reported the Las Vegas Sun.
Despite all of this, many of the convention goers believe that the change in political power in Washington can also lead to a change in the online casino's, although it's not sure that all of those who were present in the convention really wanted that. According to the Las Vegas newspaper, although two of the biggest association's members, Harra's Entertainment and MGM Mirage, want to legalize online casino sites in the US, many other member are not so happy with the idea.
